Experimenting with a Keto Diet – Blog#10

Day 20

It’s Day 20 of my Keto Diet.

How I’m Feeling

I wrote the other day how I was finding that the Diet wasn’t uncomfortable like it had been in the beginning. That still stands. I’m not aware of that same buzzing throughout my body some time after eating a meal. Sometimes I have a lot of energy, and other times not as much, but I never feel really lethargic for no reason. So my energy levels are good.

Headaches

I’ve had a few headaches, albeit very mild headaches since I’ve been on the Diet. So mild that if I were to describe them in terms of pain level, I would call them a “pre-headache” – Continue reading “Experimenting with a Keto Diet – Blog#10”

Day 17

Day 17 of my Keto Diet.

Yesterday I was feeling a little energetic and creative, so I decided to make some keto-friendly bread. There’s a number of recipes on the internet, and I decided to go with one that was a little more complicated, from the following site:

I chose this recipe because Continue reading “Experimenting with a Keto Diet – Blog#9”

Day 16

It’s Day 16 of my Keto Diet.

Energy

I worked last night. My started my shift at 5.30pm, and my co-workers asked how my Diet was going.

Rodrigo was there. We usually work together on Sundays. He’s the man who, unwittingly, was part of the inspiration for me starting this blog. I chatted about my Diet, and my blog, as I often do these days because it’s a significant part of my life at the moment. Thanks again Rodrigo for your inspiration!

I told him Continue reading “Experimenting with a Keto Diet – Blog#8”

Day

It’s Day 14 of my Keto Diet. Now I’m here, it’s hard to believe two weeks have passed.

How Long Am I Doing This For?

When I started this diet, I don’t know if I had settled on a length of time that I wanted to do it for. But when I went to buy keto sticks from the pharmacy, and the assistant asked me how long I was planning to do the diet for, I said “two months”. It seemed to roll off my tongue, but I don’t know that I was conscious that I wanted to do it for this length of time before I’d uttered those words.

Since then, there have been quite a few times when I thought about stopping the diet, or have reconsidered the length of time I wanted to do it for.

Day 13

It’s Day 13 of my Keto Diet. Lucky 13.

I don’t know why I feel like I have to say that – Lucky 13. I almost didn’t, then couldn’t help myself. As I reflect now, I think I often acknowledge that number in some way when it arises. Is it because it’s some sort of culturally-embedded milestone that I feel compelled to acknowledge? Some sort of almost witty remark? Maybe it’s an announcement of some unconscious hope that everything can only get better from now on; a denouncement of the traditional “unlucky” status that it is sometimes burdened with. Perhaps I’m just a cultural sheep who feels that that’s what I need to do, that I need to acknowledge that number. Or is there a deep part of me that is somewhere and somewhat superstitious, unsure what would happen if I didn’t make the acknowledgement?

Ketosis and Keto Sticks

Since Day 3 of this diet, the first thing I do when I get up each morning is go to the toilet and do a Keto Stick reading. Continue reading “Experimenting with a Keto Diet – Blog#6”

Day 12

It’s Day 12 of my Keto Diet. Another day off work – how I could be so lucky! Back to work tomorrow.

For breakfast this morning I fried up some asparagus and tomato in olive oil, heated up some ham in the pan, fried a couple of eggs, and served the lot with half an avocado, and  a squeeze of lemon. Oh, and I better not forget that cup of coffee with cream.

Sleep

I slept relatively well last night. Thankfully. Because, as I referred to in an earlier blog, there were three nights that I slept terribly and felt really uncomfortable.

The first of these nights was the night of the 25th October, Day 5 of the Keto Diet. It was the worst of those three.

Day 11

It’s Day 11 of my Keto Diet.

I’ve been pretty strict so far on the sorts of foods I’ve eaten, making sure they’re low in carbohydrates, or have been one of the suggested foods I researched online before beginning this diet. Perhaps I’m too strict? Someone, at some point, asked me whether I was doing the diet strictly, and I wasn’t sure. I’ve pondered this question.

Strictness, I guess, is really a matter of perception. Subjective. Based on one’s usual way of doing things, one’s culture, one’s beliefs, one’s upbringing. What may be strict to you, might be quite moderate to me.

It’s been noted several times to me over the years, that I can be a “hard man”. As I’ve mentioned previously, I can be a bit all-or-nothing.  I also tend to look for safety in rules, and I like to do things “right”. So, considering what I’m like in regards these things, let alone other factors, it wouldn’t surprise me if I were being strict.

After some time of contemplation, and from the opening line of the second paragraph, I guess I’ve concluded that I probably have been doing this diet strictly, though I’ve don’t have anything or anyone to gauge it by. It’s all experimental for me.

How I Feel

So, how do I feel? It’s hard to describe, but what I can definitively say is that I Continue reading “Experimenting with a Keto Diet – Blog#4”

Day 10

Today is Day 10 of my Keto Diet. But just before I continue…

BLOG INTERMISSION – Professionalism Waiver

I’ve been tinkering around with trying to get this site in some form of user-friendly format, and I’m much happier with how it looks and functions now. As I mentioned on my Welcome page, I’m new to blogging, so working out how to set up this site has been a process. Half the battle is learning what sort of functionality the software has. So my concept of the site, and how to set it up so it is functional, has changed over the last few days. Notice that I’ve started adding photos 🙂 If you have any suggestions on what you’d like to see and how I can improve this site, feel free let me know.

Phew! Okay, so now I have that out the way, let’s get back to…

Day 10 – continued…

So, it’s Day 10. Where do I start? There’s so much to say, and 8 days to catch up on. I noticed that my last blog was more matter-of-fact, and I really don’t want to bore you with details.

So, how about I start with where I’m at – today.

Beginnings

I started a Keto Diet at breakfast on the 21st October 2018.

Leading up to this date, long before any commitments to start it had been made, I began mentioning to people that I wanted to try it, and I did some online searches about the diet, foods to eat, and recipes.

What I knew, or thought I knew, at this point was:

  1. A Keto Diet could be used for fat loss;
  2. Fat loss could be extreme and rapid;
  3. Ketosis was the name for the process of metabolising fats, and that ketones were produced;
  4. Ketosis could be measured with strips that you urinate on, which I knew as keto sticks. My mum had done some sort of Keto Diet using supplements many years ago;
  5. There were health benefits purported about eating ketogenically;
  6. Ketones could be toxic to the body.

Some of the things I read and heard in this period were:
